Project photoGarage Door Repair in Bessemer, Jonesboro and Westlake
Bessemer was incorporated in 1887 and named for Henry Bessemer, the inventor behind the Bessemer steel process. It grew around the iron ore, coal and limestone of southern Jones Valley and was a steelmaking center through most of the 20th century. Census figures put the typical Bessemer home’s build year at 1963.
Garages from the ’50s and ’60s were often built for one car, with doors on extension springs, and openers from before the early ’90s may not have the photo-eye sensors new openers have today. Plenty of those doors can be kept working safely with the right parts, and newer homes in Bessemer get the same care.

Extension Springs, Torsion Conversions and Safer Openers
Extension springs, the long springs that run along the tracks on each side of the door, are often the weak point on an older door. When one snaps, the door suddenly gets very heavy, and a spring without a safety cable through it can whip loose. We replace extension springs, or convert the door to a torsion spring system mounted above it, which balances the door more smoothly and keeps the spring contained.
We also replace the hardware that wears out over the years: cracked hinges, flattened rollers, rusty cables and bent track. If an old opener can be repaired, we’ll repair it. If it has no safety sensors or the motor is failing, we’ll show you what a new one costs.
Things to check on your door:
- A long side spring that’s stretched out or snapped
- No safety cable running through each side spring
- The door is too heavy to lift by hand
- Cracked hinges, or a panel pulling away from them
- No sensors near the floor on either side of the door
- Rust on the cables or bottom brackets
If your opener has no photo-eye sensors near the floor, talk to us about replacing it. Those sensors stop the door from closing on a person, a pet or a car.
What We Repair and Install
Spring work, hardware, openers and new doors, for older houses and newer ones alike.
Broken Garage Door Springs
Broken or worn springs can make your garage door extremely heavy or prevent it from opening altogether. A loud bang, visible gap in the spring, or door that suddenly becomes difficult to lift can all point to a spring problem.
Garage Door Spring RepairGarage Door Opener Problems
If the opener runs but the door doesn’t move, the remote stops responding, or the door reverses unexpectedly, the opener or one of its connected components may need repair.
Garage Door Opener RepairBroken or Frayed Cables
Garage door cables work with the springs to safely lift and lower the door. A loose, frayed, or broken cable can cause the door to hang unevenly and should be repaired before the door is operated again.
Garage Door Cable RepairWorn Rollers & Damaged Tracks
Worn rollers, bent tracks, or loose hardware can cause the door to shake, grind, squeak, or move unevenly. Repairing these components can restore smoother and quieter operation.
Garage Door Track & Roller RepairGarage Doors Off Track
A door can come off its tracks because of damaged rollers, broken cables, impact, or another mechanical failure. An off-track door can be unstable, so it should be inspected before you try to move it.
Off-Track Garage Door RepairDamaged Garage Door Panel
Dents, cracks, or impact damage don’t always mean the entire garage door needs to be replaced. Depending on the damage, an individual panel may be repairable or replaceable.

Our customers love us, but don’t just take our word for it
“Company has kept my old garage doors operable for years. Responds promptly to service requests.”
“Had an extension spring snap on one of my garage doors, and Golden was able to come out and convert it to a torsion spring system in an afternoon. Very efficient and knowledgeable, great service. Any questions I had were explained and he made recommendations on what he felt was best, but was never pushy, and ultimately left the final decision up to me. Will be using Golden again in the future!”
“We had an issue with our garage door on a Sunday evening, and although they weren’t able to come out that night, they took the time to help us over the phone. They patiently walked us through the problem, gave us clear instructions, and their guidance got us through the night. …”
Common Questions
Can you convert extension springs to torsion springs?
Yes. On many doors we can replace extension springs with a torsion spring system mounted above the door. It balances the door more smoothly and keeps the spring contained. We’ll tell you if your door is a good candidate and what it costs.
My opener doesn’t have safety sensors. Is that a problem?
Yes. Openers sold in the U.S. since the early 1990s must have safety reversing features, usually photo-eye sensors near the floor. An older opener without them can close on a person, a pet or a car. We can put a new opener on your existing door.
Another company said my door can’t be fixed. Can you take a look?
Yes. Sometimes a door really is past saving, but often the problem is a part that can be replaced. We’ll tell you honestly which it is.
Which parts of Bessemer do you serve?
All three ZIP codes, 35020, 35022 and 35023, including Jonesboro, Westlake and Woodland Hills.
